Planning a trip around Australia? Here's your caravan trip checklist

Are you planning a caravan trip around Australia? If so, there are some things you need to do before you set off. Below is our caravan trip checklist, which will help to ensure your journey is a safe and enjoyable one.

1. Check your tyres

One of the most vulnerable aspects of any vehicle, from a mechanical point of view, is the tyres. These take a lot of wear and tear, and a burst tyre runs the risk of ruining your entire holiday – plus, it puts your safety and the safety of others at risk.

So, before you set off on your trip, check the pressure and tread of all your tyres and do a visual inspection for any obvious signs of damage. It's also worth checking the condition of your spare.

2. Replace your gas tanks

If your caravan uses gas, check all of your gas canisters from your most recent trip, and replace them if necessary. We also recommend fitting a carbon monoxide (CO) alarm inside your vehicle in case of any leaks.

3. Ensure your caravan is mechanically sound

If we can lend one important word of advice, it’s ensuring your caravan is mechanically sound before you hit the road. This includes checking that all of the wheels are properly aligned and that you’re up to date with scheduled caravan maintenance.

Completing these mechanical checks is one of the most crucial parts of the preparation process and provides peace of mind that your vehicle is safe to drive and will last the duration of your holiday. Book in for your mechanical checks at one of our convenient locations today.

4. Check the internal systems

Checking the internal workings of your caravan is another key part of the process. This includes the lights, fire alarms, power outlets and even the level of charge in the battery to make sure everything is working perfectly.

Before setting off, make sure all internal doors and cupboards are closed, the caravan’s windows and roof lights are shut, the external door is locked, and loads are safely secured.

Now that you’re familiar with our caravan trip checklist, all that’s left to do is pack your gear and get out there!
